The cottage where I am living is just a short walk to the sea. If you’ve viewed all the photos I’ve posted so far here and on Instagram and Facebook (check the Connect page), you will have noticed that the cottage is just up the hill from the bay.
Leaving the property, the walk begins down the lane to the street.
Turning left at the road, the walk continues along the edge of the road for maybe a quarter mile passing by several properties and beautiful plantings.
A little further along and suddenly the sea is visible from the road.
A few more steps and the edge of the road becomes one with the dune. I walked across the dune and was on the beach where I saw a large coconut.
Then I looked at the surf and saw another coconut.
Looking further down the beach, I saw a shipwreck!
I walked down the beach to get closer to the wreck. I actually had to walk on the edge of of the dune because the tide was so high. Later, I checked the tide tables and found out I was at the beach just about 30 minutes before the highest point of the tide!
At low tide, the rock the ship struck is probably visible. But the lowest tide this week is at 2 am, so I won’t be checking it out! I walked back down the beach and noticed more coconuts and a coconut bobbing in the sea. I think that a coconut palm may have been hit in the post-Tammy storm.
I also saw a cool piece of drift wood but it was too far from shore and the incoming tide was pretty strong, so I didn’t try to get it. Because the tide was so high, there was no beach to sit on. I waded a bit and enjoyed the feel of the cool, rushing water. Thus ended my visit to the Forest Bay beach for that day and I walked home.
I love it here!
