Driving to Sandy Ground Bay

Yesterday afternoon, I decided to visit Sandy Ground Bay. Forest Bay is on the south side of the island, while Sandy Ground Bay is on the north side of the island. Therefore, I would be driving rather than walking. After driving for about 10 minutes or so, I arrived at Sandy Ground after a steep drop from the ridge to the sea. Anguilla is only 3 miles wide at the widest point! The island is 15 miles long. Long and skinny like an eel: anguilla (in Italian)! If I were feeling especially energetic, I suppose I could walk there, but driving is more sensible.

I parked by Johnno’s Beach Bar. I’d visited it 4 years ago. It’s relatively classy for a Sandy Ground beach bar.

I appeared to be the only person in Sandy Ground who wasn’t employed, but I was there at an odd time in mid-afternoon. After ordering a Coca-Cola, I set at a table with a perfect view of the sea.

After finishing my Coke, I decided to walk on the beach.

Sandy Ground is known for its sailboat races during the Spring and Summer months.

The water was very calm. This is a favorite swimming beach although no one was swimming while I was there.

Sandy Ground is beautiful and pleasant; the perfect late afternoon interlude,
