Dames is a new restaurant located in the Forest in Anguilla off Tanglewood Road. Dames opened on Anguilla Day, May 30, 2024.

The restaurant is named for Dame Bernice Lake and is located in a beautiful, old Anguillan home. Dame Bernice Lake was a talented lawyer and jurist who practiced widely throughout the Caribbean. She was instrumental in the development of the Anguillan Constitution in 1975 and the Constitution of Antigua and Barbuda in 1981. Antigua and Barbuda awarded her with the title of Dame in 2004. Her funeral in 2011 was attended by dignataries from throughout the Caribbean.

Dining at Dames is al fresco on the beautifully decorated veranda which has a lovely view of St. Martin over the Forest as it rolls to the sea.

The house interior contains many of Dame Lake’s possessions and, in the future, will be turned into a museum honoring her.

I chose the pan-seared salmon and vegetables for my meal. It was delicious. The owner of Dames is also the chef.

After dinner, we enjoyed listening to the jazz stylings of the saxophonist.

He was joined by the smooth vocals of the chef. Truly a delightful finish to a delicious meal.

Dames is off the beaten path, but well worth the drive if you want to dine with views of the sea edging the lush, green Forest.

Take Forest Road towards the shore and then follow the signs to Tanglewood Road and Dames.
