One day last week, we decided to explore some of Anguilla’s side roads. Exploring side roads and those that lead out into the more rural areas is a past-time I learned from my grandfather. After my grandfather died, I tried to continue the practice by taking my grandmother on long drives. We would say, “I wonder where that road goes?” We celebrated our back roads adventures with a rootbeer float.
My grandmother would have loved to explore the back roads of Anguilla and then finish the adventure with an ice cream treat at Island Crave. So, in her honor, I am going to do more exploration of Anguilla’s back roads.
When I am out driving/exploring, I do not pay much attention to where I am going. I figure I will eventually find my way back. Now, of course, it is easier to get home with GPS. Using GPS to get home is one thing. But when setting out on an adventure, it’s best to just drive and take any turn off the main road that looks appealing. Worry about getting home later. After all, Anguilla isn’t that large and it’s an island. There is only so far you can go!
That day, we headed somewhat west and then south. At one point, we turned off onto a back road and didn’t really know where we were. The road curved around through a quiet neighborhood. We rounded a corner and suddenly, there in front of us, was a super-cute shop painted a bright sunshine yellow. We drove by before we realized it so we did a u-turn back to the shop. Unsurprisingly, we discovered that its name was Anguilla Sunshine Shop. It turned out that the road we were on was called Spring Path Road. That is such an evocative name. Was this road the original pathway to an underground spring? I need to find out.
The colorful exterior of the Sunshine Shop just makes you want to smile. And owner Carmella (Kennie) Romney knows it! She has her own line of T-shirts designed with that warmly smiling sunshine logo. She also has a cute T with a happy angel fish.
The inside of the Sunshine Shop is inviting and beachy with its beautiful wood paneling and wood ceiling. The windows and skylights provide abundant light.
Even the clothing adds to the light, airy feel with the natural linen ensembles. And there is a wide range of accessories and jewelry to enhance your outfit.
The Sunshine Shop is truly a special place that pops into view as you round the corner on Spring Path Road. It’s almost magical!
Ms. Romney has made sure that she is on the map, so you don’t have to wonder where her shop is or wander to find it. (Although that can be fun, too!) Just check the map!
Now I am off on my next adventure.
